Poroshenko calls on head of US Department of Defense not to trust Russia: Agreement signed by Putin is not worth paper on which it is printed

Nov 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The fifth President of Ukraine, MP (European Solidarity faction) Petro Poroshenko held a short meeting with U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, during which they discussed strengthening support for the Ukrainian army to ensure victory in the war with Russia, the press service of the political force said.

"I had the opportunity to have a short meeting with the Minister, it was very eventful. And today there was his keynote speech during his first visit as Minister of Defense to Canada. This program strategy was devoted to the key position ‘Why Ukraine is important," Poroshenko said.

According to him, Russian aggression against Ukraine is the biggest threat to the world since the Second World War.

"This is the assessment of the United States, and we fully agree with it. This is not a question of a war between Russia and Ukraine, this is a threat to the global security of the world. Accordingly, the United States will pay such attention to supporting Ukraine. security. These are literally the theses with which the Ukrainians come out," the MP said.

Poroshenko said that during the conversation with Austin, he reminded the latter that Ukraine had many peace agreements with Russia.

"This and the Budapest Agreement, which was signed, was ratified with the corresponding security guarantees. It was the so-called ‘Great Agreement’ of 1997, which I canceled as president. Where we were also given appropriate security guarantees that did not materialize, and therefore this agreement was meaningless, because Russia is not going to comply with them, and the events of 2014-2015, when three agreements were signed, a protocol, a memorandum and agreements providing for the restoration of sovereignty, the withdrawal of foreign troops, the withdrawal of heavy equipment and weapons," the fifth president said.

He said that under the latest documents we stand the signature of Vladimir Putin, in connection with which he urged not to believe the Russian president.

"The agreement signed by Putin is not worth the paper on which it is printed," the MP said.

Poroshenko said the only way that security in Europe and the world can be ensured is a Ukrainian victory.

"And we must do everything possible to make the victory come true. This is a weapon, this strengthening of sanctions, inclusive – and we must start talking about this – with extraterritorial sanctions. We must cut the channels of Russian exports. We must cut the flow of foreign currency to Russia, because for This currency is used to buy weapons that are used to kill Ukrainians," he said.
