KYIV. Dec 14 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine has connected an additional 1,000 MW of power generation capacity, which should be distributed among all regions and help reduce restrictions on electricity consumption, CEO of YASNO power supply company Serhiy Kovalenko said on Tuesday evening.
"The good news is that additional generation capacities have been connected, Ukraine has received a total of over 1000 MW," Kovalenko wrote on his Facebook.
According to him, today the situation in the city of Kyiv is better than yesterday, although it still remains difficult. At the same time, he has not yet begun to predict how exactly the increase in generation will affect Kyiv, since the added capacity should be distributed among all regions. However, he admitted that due to today’s (December 13) growth, "there will be more light."
At the same time, he explained that the shortage is caused by a complex problem – both the shortage of generation and the incomplete ability of networks to transmit it.
"It’s really complex here. Generation is growing, but not yet to the level it was before the shelling. But even if it were fully functional, it would not be able to be transmitted due to damage to the networks. The networks are being repaired, but this takes time," he said.
As reported with reference to Kovalenko, on December 12, Kyiv was limited in electricity consumption by about one third (consumption of the city in peacetime is approximately 1,500 MW).
