Prisoners of war (POWS) to be able to exchange letters with relatives – Reintegration Ministry

KYIV. Nov 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Prisoners of war (POWs) can exchange letters with their relatives, the Ministry of Reintegration of Temporarily Occupied Territories has reported.

"The relevant agreements were reached during the negotiations of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, the National Information Bureau under the Ministry of Reintegration and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)," the ministry’s press service said.

In particular, it’s about the exchange of letters, which is guaranteed by article 71 of the Geneva Convention on the Treatment of Prisoners of War.

According to the report, the delivery of letters in both directions is organized by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

"Currently, communication will be provided between families and prisoners of war, whose status has been confirmed by the Red Cross," the ministry notes.
