KYIV. Nov 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Canada, together with Ukraine, is ready to lead a coalition of countries facilitating the return of Ukrainian children deported by Russia, the Telegram channel of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine said on Tuesday.
“The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada Mélanie Joly at the conference [international conference United for Justice. She also said Canada is ready to lead, together with Ukraine, a coalition of countries promoting the return of Ukrainian children,” Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin said.
According to the department, the conference discussed the introduction of new mechanisms that will facilitate the return of Ukrainian children; Canada plays an active role in these efforts.
The PGO, together with international partners, collect and analyze all existing evidence that may indicate the genocidal intent of such crimes in accordance with the UN Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.
“We must draw the attention of the world community to the fact that genocide is now happening in the very heart of Europe. To do this, it is necessary to collect sufficient evidence so that the International Criminal Court (ICC) can make a fair decision. This is the focus of our constant work with partners, including the Office ICC prosecutor,” the Prosecutor General said.
During the conference, issues of ensuring comprehensive responsibility of Russia, in particular the confiscation of the sovereign assets of the aggressor state, were also discussed. The Prosecutor General said that among the partner countries there is already a certain element of political will in resolving this issue, and the Ukrainian side is strengthening cooperation in this area with partners from Canada, the United States and the EU.
