Putin depends on sentiments of Russian society – Zelensky

KYIV. Dec 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) – President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin is very dependent on Russian society.

"Society in Russia chooses politicians for itself. Society has an influence on President Putin. If he lives comfortably, if relations with other countries continue with their business, then they will not feel any discomfort. And for them, the whole history on the territory of our country will be a ‘special military an operation,’ as Putin calls it, not a war," he said, speaking via video link at a DealBook summit on Wednesday.

At the same time, Zelensky expressed the opinion that "Putin’s aggression is absolutely predictable." "It wants to seize Ukraine and primitively destroy our population. And completely control this territory," the president said.

He found it difficult to answer the question about the possible use of nuclear weapons.

"I don’t know if he can use nuclear weapons, because he doesn’t really control all the processes that take place in the army. Either some people came in and raped children – he says he doesn’t know anything about it. came in and shoots at civilians – he says that these are not his troops. It all started with the seizure of Crimea – for months he said that it was not him, these were incomprehensible people, and then he began to say – yes, they are," Zelensky said.

According to Zelensky, "[Russia] can use nuclear weapons in other territories as well. There is no need to be afraid of this. We need to be afraid of Putin’s advantages, give him the territory of our state. He will get a taste. We must put him in his place."

"But I cannot bear responsibility for the level of adequacy of the President of Russia," he said.
