Rada delegation to take part in 43rd ASEAN IA General Assembly in Cambodia

KYIV. Nov 18 (Interfax-Ukraine) – A delegation of the Verkhovna Rada headed by First Deputy Chairman of the Ukrainian Parliament Oleksandr Korniyenko will pay a working visit to Cambodia on November 21-23, where they will take part in the 43rd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN IA, ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly).

According to the website of the Ukrainian Parliament, Korniyenko will speak at the opening of the ASEAN AI plenary session.

It is planned that the Ukrainian delegation will hold bilateral meetings with parliamentary delegations of other states on the sidelines of the General Assembly. The program of the visit also provides for meetings of the Verkhovna Rada delegation with the government circles of Cambodia.

ASEAN IA was established in 1977 to maintain regular contacts and coordinate actions between the legislative bodies of the ASEAN member states, as well as to establish interaction with parliaments. Now members of IA ASEAN are the national parliaments of all ten member states of the Association (Brunei Darussalam, Vietnam, Indonesia, Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, and Philippines).

The decision to grant observer status to the Verkhovna Rada was made by the ASEAN AI General Assembly during the 42nd session on August 23-25, 2021.
