KYIV. May 25 (Interfax-Ukraine) – First Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Korniyenko called on France to join the process of releasing representatives of Ukrainian local self-government from captivity, the parliament’s press service said.

“Representatives of local self-government are in Russian captivity – they were ‘guilty’ only in the fact that they actively showed the position of defending Ukraine,” Korniyenko said during a meeting with the Friendship Group of the Senate of the French Republic.

He called to join the process of liberation from Russian captivity of representatives of local self-government of Ukraine.

In addition, during the meeting, Korniyenko briefed his colleagues about Ukraine’s activities to maintain growth and restore the economy today, in particular, regarding the draft law on insurance of investments in Ukraine against military risks.

The parties also raised a number of international issues and a joint fight for the truth and against Russian propaganda in the countries of the Global South.

We discussed the decentralization reform and Ukraine’s achievements in this area.

“A separate topic of our communication is the circumvention of sanctions and the cessation of assistance by some countries to embody this aggressor,” Korniyenko said, expressing gratitude to the French Senate for its strong position in support of truth and justice.
