KYIV. Nov 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Verkhovna Rada brought the law “On the Judicial System and Status of Judges” into line with the decision of the Constitutional Court and renamed the Supreme Court of Ukraine the Supreme Court.
As MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak (Holos parliamentary faction) reported on his Telegram channel, bill No. 5456-d on amending the Section XII “Final and transitional provisions” of the law “On the judicial system and status of judges” was backed by a total of 251 MPs at a plenary session of parliament on Tuesday.
According to the bill, after the renaming, the Supreme Court continues to act as the highest court in the state’s judicial system.
The document stipulates that judges of the Supreme Court of Ukraine, elected to positions before the entry into force of the law “On Amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine (regarding justice),” continue to exercise their powers in the Supreme Court until dismissal or termination of their powers on the grounds determined by the Constitution.
Employees of the apparatus of the Supreme Court of Ukraine, whose powers have not been terminated, are transferred, upon their personal application, without the obligatory holding of a competition, to equivalent positions to the apparatus of the Supreme Court in the manner prescribed by law.
The Supreme Court operates on the material and technical basis of the Supreme Court of Ukraine, the Higher Specialized Court for Civil and Criminal Cases, and the Higher Economic and Administrative Courts.
