KYIV. Nov 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Verkhovna Rada plans to open its office in the European Parliament, Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament Ruslan Stefanchuk said.
“We discussed (with President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola) very important issues about the mutual opening of offices. That is, in Kyiv it is planned to open an office of the European Parliament, and here, in the European Parliament, we plan to open an office of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine,” Stefanchuk said on the national telethon on Tuesday, announcing his working visit to Brussels.
The speaker of the Ukrainian parliament also spoke about the work being done to ensure that even before Ukraine’s membership in the EU, MPs “have the opportunity… to be observers at meetings of the European Parliament so that we implement our vision, our procedures to those existing in the European Parliament.”
Stefanchuk also spoke for the need to unify the activities of the apparatus of the Verkhovna Rada and the European Parliament.
“That is why we are now conducting a study of the activities of the apparatus of the European Parliament so that these norms and procedures can be transitioned into the activities of the apparatus of the Verkhovna Rada,” Stefanchuk noted.
According to the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, it is very important for the Ukrainian parliament to meet the criteria of democratization and parliamentarism, since Ukraine is integrating into Europe and “we want to have full compatibility.”
