Recognition of Russia as terrorist state by U.S. could be the toughest step in terms of sanctions – Arakhamia

KYIV. Nov 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – During the visit of a parliamentary delegation to the United States, Ukraine plans to raise the issue of the need to recognize Russia as a terrorist state, Head of the Servant of the People faction David Arakhamia has said.

"The main thing for us is the recognition [of Russia] as a terrorist state by the United States," he said on air of the national telethon on Tuesday.

When the U.S. recognizes Russia as a terrorist state, "not a single bank in the world will deal with a single Russian business" which will hit the Russian economy hard, Arakhamia said.

The parliamentarian said that the delegation of the Ukrainian parliament during the next trip to the U.S. will try to influence this process.

He stressed that if the U.S. recognizes Russia as a terrorist state, this "will be the toughest response from the United States in terms of sanctions."

Arakhamia said that the parliamentary delegation is also going to the U.S. to raise the issue of creating an International Tribunal.

"The most important thing for us is to achieve the reaction of the United States, France and Germany… In a week a parliamentary delegation will go to the United States specifically on this issue… I think they will already return with certain results," he said.

According to the parliamentarian, there is some inertia in resolving the issue of establishing the International Tribunal.

"We can see that… there is a certain resistance to the creation of the International Tribunal on the Russian aggression, and in some cases this looks like bureaucratic resistance, and in some even like playing along with the aggressor," Arakhamia said.

He stressed that Ukrainian parliamentarians are trying to use the entire spectrum of parliamentary diplomacy in order to speed up the process of creating the Tribunal.
