Russian military by shelling on Sunday damage equipment failure of which makes it impossible to take any further actions to launch ZNPP reactors – Energoatom

KYIV. Nov 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – On the morning of November 20, 2022, as a result of numerous Russian strikes, at least 12 hits were recorded at the site of the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, Energoatom has reported.

"As a result, overpasses for communication with special buildings, chemically desalinated water storage tanks, a steam generator purge system, auxiliary systems of one of the two general plant diesel engines and other equipment of the plant’s infrastructure were damaged. Three hits were also recorded in the area of the Raiduha substation. Information about damage and destruction there is still being clarified," Energoatom said in its Telegram channel on Sunday.

Energoatom said that the nature and list of damaged ZNPP equipment indicate that the Russian military targeted and disabled exactly the infrastructure that was necessary to launch reactors five and six and resume electricity production at the Zaporizhia NPP for the needs of Ukraine.

Recently Energoatom made a decision, and the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine granted permission to bring reactors five and six to the minimum controlled power level.

At the same time, the Russian military tried in every possible way to prevent the Ukrainian personnel of the plant from starting the reactors.

"The fake director of the plant from Rosatom Romanenko, with the assistance of the Russian military, who seized the Zaporizhia NPP and use it as their own military base, blocked the preparation of reactors to bring them to the minimum power level," the company said.

"Once again, we appeal to the international community to urgently take measures for the speedy demilitarization of ZNPP, the withdrawal of all Russian military from the territory of the plant and the city of Enerhodar, and the return of the Zaporizhia NPP under the full control of Ukraine for the sake of the security of the whole world!" Energoatom said.
