By KYIV. Dec 14 (Interfax-Ukraine) – On Wednesday, the State Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) is conducting counterintelligence activities at 19 UOC-MP facilities in Zakarpattia, Chernivtsi, Rivne, Volyn, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Lviv, Zhytomyr and Kherson regions, the SBU said.
"The State Security Service of Ukraine officers are carrying out counterintelligence activities at the facilities of the UOC (MP) in Zakarpattia, Chernivtsi, Rivne, Volyn, Mykolaiv, Sumy, Lviv, Zhytomyr and Kherson regions," the Ukrainian special service said on its website on Wednesday.
"The events are being held jointly with the National Police and the National Guard as part of the systematic work of the State Security Service of Ukraine to counter the subversive activities of the Russian special services in our state," the service said.
The special service said that given the Russian armed aggression, these measures are being taken, among other things, to exclude the use of religious communities as a cell of the "Russian world" and to protect the population from provocations and terrorist acts.
"With the direct participation of representatives of the church, law enforcement officers conduct an inspection of the territory and premises (including a hotel type) to identify persons involved in illegal activities to the detriment of the state sovereignty of Ukraine and items prohibited for circulation," the SBU said.
