SBU exposes more than 600 Russian agents, spies since start of full-scale war

KYIV. Jan 10 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Since the beginning of the full-scale aggression of the Russian Federation, the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has exposed more than 600 Russian agents and spies who carried out reconnaissance and subversive activities against Ukraine, the press service of the SBU reports.

It is noted that at the moment the special service is investigating more than 1,500 criminal proceedings on the facts of treason and espionage, more than 340 of them have been sent to court.

"So, as a result of a multi-stage special operation, a sabotage and reconnaissance group of Russian military intelligence was detained. The enemy agents were preparing for the physical elimination of the Minister of Defense and the head of the Main Intelligence Agency of our state, as well as a well-known Ukrainian activist," the report says.

It clarifies that in Kyiv, the SBU neutralized a Russian intelligence group, which included officials from the Cabinet of Ministers and the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, who were passing intelligence on the development of the state border and personal data of Ukrainian law enforcement officers to the enemy.

In Mykolaiv, the former head of Mykolaiv district prosecutor’s office was exposed by the special services, who, after February 24, 2022, voluntarily offered his help to the occupiers in the war against Ukraine. While in office, the lawbreaker passed on to the Russian special services information about the results of enemy shelling, passwords at checkpoints and information about military prisoners of the Russian Federation.

In Khmelnytsky, the SBU detained a spy – a citizen of the Russian Federation, who arrived in Ukraine in January 2022 to carry out intelligence and subversive activities against Ukraine.

"His ‘legend’ was allegedly visiting relatives. And the real task is to create an extensive network of agents for collecting intelligence and sabotage in the western regions of our state," the SBU stressed.

They add that in Volyn the SBU neutralized another spy, who turned out to be a citizen of Belarus, who collected information about the deployment and movement of units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the region.

"For all the exposed facts, the counterintelligence service of the Security Service is carrying out systematic work to bring to justice all the perpetrators," the Service concluded.
