KYIV. Oct 24 (Interfax-Ukraine) – German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Tuesday that Germany will not give up support for Ukraine, including with weapons, despite the fighting between Israel and the Hamas group.
“We are backing Ukraine economically, financially, with humanitarian aid and also with weapons. This support will in no way be impacted by the fact that we of course since the horrible morning hours of October 7 have focused on Israel and the Middle East with the greatest sympathy and concern,” the Western media said, citing his words.
Earlier in October, after the Hamas attack, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius said Berlin would allow Israel to use two German Heron TP combat drones. Berlin is also studying the possibility of supplying ammunition to the Israeli Navy.
Pistorius also said “Germany will continue to support Ukraine with what it needs most – air defense, ammunition and tanks.”
The German Ministry of Defense announced the preparation of a new “winter package” of assistance for Ukraine worth about EUR 1 billion, which will include additional Patriot and IRIS-T air defense systems, as well as Gepard self-propelled anti-aircraft guns.
