Shmyhal suggests that OECD identify priority areas of work, develop detailed plan for Ukraine's accession to organization

KYIV. Dec 12 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal has appealed to the Council of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) with a proposal to identify priority areas of work and develop a detailed plan for Ukraine’s accession to the organization.

"Ukraine is striving to join the OECD as a leading platform for democratic countries with market economies to exchange experience in post-war renewal, reforms, and the formation of state policies. Ukraine already needs help today. Due to Russia’s attacks on the electric power system, half of our energy infrastructure has been damaged. And this affects all sectors of the economy," Shmyhal wrote on the Telegram channel.

According to him, the approximate cost of emergency support for the electric power industry and the district heating sector is estimated at $1 billion in total, and according to preliminary estimates of the World Bank and the Government of Ukraine, the needs for restoration will reach $600 billion.

"Despite everything, we continue reforms and European integration. We hope to receive a clear plan for our rapprochement with the OECD for potential membership in the organization and further development of Ukraine," he wrote.
