Significant shortage of resource remains in power system, consumption limits set for regions – Ukrenergo

KYIV. Dec 12 (Interfax-Ukraine) – On the morning of December 12, a significant shortage of power remains in Ukraine’s power system, to ensure a balance in the system, each regional power company has been given limits on electricity consumption, NPC Ukrenergo reported.

"Consumption restrictions are in place to comply with the limits. If the established limits are exceeded, emergency power outages are applied," the company said in a message on the Telegram channel on Monday.

They explained that over the past week, the power grid had been subjected to three Russian attacks – the eighth massive missile attack on December 5 and two local attacks by artillery and drones in the south and east of the country over the weekend.

"The destruction caused by the enemy to the power system does not yet allow for the full use of the capacity of thermal power plants, additional time is needed to resume their work," Ukrenergo said.

The company also noted that in Odesa region, which was attacked by drones on Saturday night, due to which 1.5 million household consumers were de-energized, the situation is still difficult, and the consumer connection continues.

"The teams of Ukrenergo, generations and regional power companies are working together to eliminate the consequences of Russian attacks on Ukraine’s power system Due to the complexity of the damage, the work continues longer and is complicated by bad weather [gusty wind with wet snow]. But we are making every effort to improve the situation with energy supply," the company assured.

Based on the results of monitoring the information resources of network operators, Vinnytsiaoblenergo, Volynoblenergo, Zakarpattiaoblenergo, Prykarpattiaoblenergo, and Kirovohradoblenergo, in particular, report planned restrictions.

Zaporizhiaoblenergo warned about exceeding the limits and possible introduction of emergency power outages, urging consumers to reduce the use of electricity.

Lvivoblenergo reports a blackout as a result of bad weather in 25 settlements completely and 57 partially.

DTEK operators – Dnipro, Donetsk, Odesa, Kyiv and Kyiv regional power grids report emergency power outages.

In particular, in Kyiv region, due to bad weather, 14 settlements remain completely de-energized and 37 partially. Due to wind gusts, 22 power lines of 6-10 kV were de-energized completely and 10 partially, as well as 525 transformer substations.

"Teams are working at the accident sites, doing everything possible to return light to every home. Power engineers have sent all their forces and resources to fight the disaster and return comfort to every home of our client," DTEK Kyiv Regional Power Grids says.
