KYIV. Nov 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The state budget of Ukraine for 2023 provides for UAH 142.8 billion in funding for the Ministry of Education and Science.
"The Verkhovna Rada adopted the law on the state budget for 2023. Of course, the main expenditures are provided for defense and social security. Under martial law, it cannot be otherwise. But even despite the difficult times, the government found an opportunity to increase the expenditures of the state budget of the Ministry of Education and Science for 2023 by the second reading by UAH 555 million," Minister Serhiy Shkarlet wrote on the Telegram channel.
In particular, out of the added UAH 555 million: UAH 50 million – to receive vocational education in specialties of national importance; UAH 20 million – to continue training young people in the programs for the preparation of masters, doctors of philosophy and doctors of sciences in leading Ukrainian universities and abroad; UAH 30 million – for holding all-Ukrainian events on out-of-school education for young people; UAH 215 million – for external evaluation, monitoring of the quality of education; UAH 150 million – to ensure the organization of education in distance learning, in particular for children who are forced to stay abroad; and UAH 90 million – for the National Research Foundation.
According to the minister, in general, according to the state budget for 2023, the Ministry of Education provides for expenses in the amount of UAH 142.8 billion, of which UAH 122.1 billion for the general fund.
Shkarlet noted that nationwide spending (subventions) amounted to UAH 90.3 billion, in particular, there are two new subventions: UAH 1.5 billion for the improvement of safe conditions in schools and UAH 1 billion for the purchase of school buses.
In addition, UAH 22.5 billion are provided for the training of personnel by institutions of higher and vocational higher education; UAH 4.2 billion – payment of academic scholarships; UAH 0.5 billion – ensuring the activities of the National Research Foundation, grant support for scientific research and scientific and technical (experimental) research.
"Perhaps the budget is somewhat less than the teachers expected, but we will definitely cope," the minister summed up.
