KYIV. Oct 25 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Talks about peace or truce is meaningless until the Russian army leaves the occupied territory of Ukraine, said Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Ruslan Stefanchuk.
“Any talks of peace or truce is meaningless as long as Russian troops remain on our internationally recognized territory. Otherwise, this will be a new war that will be a burden on the shoulders of our children,” Stefanchuk said at the plenary session of the second parliamentary summit of the International Crimea Platform, which is taking place in Prague (Czech Republic) on Tuesday.
He emphasized that “without the complete restoration of the territorial integrity of Ukraine, including Crimea, there will be neither a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace for our state, nor security for the whole world.”
The speaker of the Ukrainian parliament also noted that the response of the world community to the occupation of Ukrainian Crimea and Donbas in 2014 was frail and insufficient to restrain the Kremlin regime from further, more aggressive steps.
“International mechanisms for conflict prevention and resolution did not work, and the aggressor moved to the next phase,” Stefanchuk said.
