By KYIV. Dec 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier had a conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping, in addition to bilateral relations, the sixty-minute conversation was devoted to the Russian war against Ukraine.
According to the press service of the German President, in a conversation, Steinmeier confirmed Germany’s determination to continue supporting Ukraine.
"The defense of Ukraine and the cohesion of Europe are strengthened by Russian aggression. Putin has fundamentally miscalculated here," the message says.
Steinmeier stressed the common interest of China and Europe in ending the war and in respecting the sovereignty of Ukraine and the necessary withdrawal of Russian troops for this.
"He asked Xi to use his influence in Russia to influence Putin in this regard," the report notes.
Steinmeier also thanked the Chinese President for his clear rejection of nuclear threats from Russia and welcomed the joint signal of the G20 states in Bali.
