Tkachenko invites EU countries to reallocate 1% of national budgets to support culture, media in Ukraine during 2023-2026

KYIV. Nov 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Minister of Culture and Information Policy Oleksandr Tkachenko proposes that European partners annually during 2023-2026 redistribute 1% of the national budgets for culture and media of the European Union states to support Ukrainian culture and media.

"In Ukraine this year there is no electricity, heating, water, and the Ukrainian Defense Forces continue to fight to protect not only Ukrainians, but all Europeans, so that they can celebrate Christmas as always. Therefore, we hope for the strong support of our partners, especially before winter. Reallocation of 1% of the national budgets for culture and media of the EU countries annually during 2023-2026 to support Ukrainian culture and media can become such an option for joint assistance," Tkachenko wrote on the Telegram channel following the meeting of the EU Education, Youth, Culture and Sport Council.

In addition, the minister stressed the need to jointly counter Russian propaganda and disinformation, as well as to impose sanctions on Russian cultural figures who support Russia’s war against Ukraine.
