Two foreigners suspected of helping draft evaders to leave for EU – prosecutor's office

KYIV. Sept 13 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Law enforcers notified two foreign citizens of suspicion of being involved in a scheme to help draft evaders leave Ukraine for the European Union countries, Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office has said.

“Under the procedural guidance of Kyiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, two citizens of a foreign country were notified of suspicion of organizing illegal transportation of people across the border of Ukraine (Part 3 of Article 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine,” it said on the Telegram channel on Wednesday.

According to the investigation, the suspects tried to lead a resident of Kyiv region liable for military service to Hungary bypassing the checkpoints.

“The military-age man, who followed their instructions, arrived at the borderline region where he received instructions regarding the further crossing of the state border. The men paid $6,000 for their services,” the prosecutor’s office said.

The suspects were detained in the territory of Zakarpattia region next to the state border.

At the request of the prosecutor’s office, a preventive measure in the form of detention was selected for them.

Other persons involved in the crime are being identified.

The pre-trial investigation is conducted by investigators of the Main Directorate of the National Police in Kyiv region.
