KYIV. May 8 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Mykola Solsky met with Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry of Moldova Vladimir Bolea in Chisinau, the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy has reported.
“Solsky expressed disagreement with the decision on the part of Moldova. He also said that the reasons for this decision are not clear, since Ukraine does not import these crops to the Republic of Moldova,” the ministry said.
Solsky went to Moldova after the statements of the Moldovan side about the intention to temporarily take measures to import grains and oilseeds from Ukraine, as some EU countries did earlier.
In turn, Bolea briefed his Ukrainian colleague on the difficulties with the sale of the harvest by Moldovan farmers.
“The amount of domestic grain in warehouses is large, which puts pressure on farmers. They are worried that they will not have room for a new crop. At the same time, the dynamics of domestic grain exports tend to decrease, logistics costs have increased and prices on international exchanges have collapsed. To our farmers it is necessary to use our grain reserves and prepare for the new agricultural season,” the official website of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry of Moldova quoted Bolea as saying.
Bolea assured that the transit of Ukrainian agricultural products through Moldova would be carried out in full.
The negotiations will continue, the press service of the ministry said.
