Ukraine expects to receive LED lamps from partners by late 2022 – PM

KYIV. Dec 13 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal has announced that he expects to receive energy-saving LED lamps from partner countries for replacing lamps in institutions by the end of 2022.

"We expect to start receiving LED lamps by the end of this year and replace all this number of lamps during the winter," Shmyhal said at a joint press conference with French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna in Paris on Tuesday.

According to the prime minister, it is planned to replace 20-25 million lamps available to the population by exchanging them for incandescent lamps, as well as replacing lamps in the social sphere, schools, hospitals, kindergartens, and infrastructure facilities.

Earlier, President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the result of the conference in France could be an agreement to finance a project for the purchase of LED lamps for Ukraine, since 50 million such lamps make it possible to save about 1 Gigawatt of electricity.

In turn, Head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen announced the European Commission’s readiness to mobilize EUR 30 million to buy 30 million LED lamps for Ukraine.
