Ukraine may receive $3 bln from Afghan National Army Trust Fund – media

KYIV. Dec 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine may receive additional funds as a result of the redistribution of the fund created by NATO to support the Afghan National Army (ANA) Trust Fund, Politico reports.

According to the ezine, NATO countries are ready to consider the possibility of redistributing $3.4 billion in the trust fund created to support and train the Afghan National Army. It is noted that this initiative as a whole does not cause controversy among the leadership of the Alliance countries.

It is expected that these funds will be able in the short term to resolve the issue of assistance to Ukraine against the background of high inflation and rising energy prices in Europe, as well as to ease internal tension in NATO at a crucial stage of the war.

The source of the publication pointed out that NATO officials had been discussing the possibility of using Afghan funds for Ukraine for more than a month, including during the October meeting in Brussels.

Фонд сейчас заморожен, но альянс работает над разработкой механизма возврата или перенаправления средств. Каждая страна сама должна решить судьбу денег. Некоторые страны НАТО рассматривают возможность использования части или всех средств для Украины.

The fund is frozen now, but the alliance is working on developing a mechanism for returning or redirecting funds. Each country itself must decide the fate of money. Some NATO countries are considering using some or all of the funds for Ukraine.
