KYIV. Oct 23 (Interfax-Ukraine) – In the coming days, Ukraine will receive a written assessment of the implementation of the recommendations of the European Commission to start negotiations on accession to the European Union, Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Ruslan Stefanchuk said.
“We expect a written assessment literally in the coming days,” Stefanchuk said during a single telethon on Monday.
According to him, after this there will be a series of more negotiations.
“We really hope that at the end of this year the European Council will decide to open negotiations on Ukraine’s full membership in the European Union,” the chairman said.
Stefanchuk said that Verkhovna Rada has implemented all seven recommendations made by the European Commission to adopt the necessary laws.
“The final legislative act on the so-called PEPs was voted in the Verkhovna Rada,” Stefanchuk said.
According to the chairman, the very fact of the opening of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the European Union at the end of this year will be an event “that is several heads higher than even the status of candidacy.”
“This is already our finish line, along which we must pass, pass with honour, in order to receive the status of a country of the European Union. I am sure that we will all do this together,” the Verkhovna Rada chairman said.
As reported, Stefanchuk is on an official visit to the Czech Republic on October 23 and 24, where he will take part in the second parliamentary summit of the International Crimea Platform.
