Ukraine unites European Union – Zelensky's address to Rada

KYIV. Dec 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said that Ukraine had recently united the European Union.

"Over ten months of this year, we have helped the West find itself again, return to the global stage and feel how the West prevails. Nobody in the West is afraid of Russia anymore and never will be. We helped the European Union acquire real subjectivity. We helped Europe feel like not just a few championships with teams of different levels, but one strong team that, together with the entire free world, is fighting for victory. It was Ukraine that united the European Union," he said, speaking on Wednesday at the Verkhovna Rada with an address on the foundations of domestic and foreign policy.

"Europe is overcoming the crisis. And this is despite the colossal resources thrown by Russia to break our continent. Everything Russia tried to do against Europe failed. Every Russian step became a mistake. Our steps succeeded," he said.

According to him, for the first time in history, the European Union helps defend against such large-scale aggression, for the first time a number of EU countries have changed their legislation and their political rules and now provide armed assistance to our state, for the first time in history, some European countries have revised the concept of neutrality and resist aggression together with Ukraine.

Zelensky noted that "most countries of the world are no longer interested in whether Russia will hear them. It’s finished. Now the world is really interested in what else to expect from Ukraine, what Ukraine can give to Europe and the world."

"We give each of our partners a unique feeling and a historic opportunity to be a winner together with Ukraine. Thanks to the Ukrainians, the world remembers what it is to be winners. Next year we will only enhance it," he said.

He is convinced that "the time has come to start negotiations on Ukraine’s membership in the European Union."
