KYIV. Nov 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine’s possible accession to the European Union is a challenge for EU agriculture; it is necessary to look for solutions that would not harm Polish farmers, Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Poland Robert Telus said on Monday in Brussels, where the Council on Agriculture and Fisheries is being held.
According to pap.pl, Telus took part in meetings with the ministers of agriculture of the Visegrad Group countries and the coalition of five front-line countries, at which the prospect of Ukraine’s accession to the EU was discussed.
“These are challenges for EU agriculture. But first of all for us – I mean Poland and the front-line countries. We need to talk about this. We must look for solutions that will not harm European agriculture, so that Ukraine’s accession to the EU does not harm our farmers – Polish and other front-line countries. We agree – both groups – that these issues are important and that we must take care of them,” the Polish minister said.
According to him, the ministers also discussed the transit of Ukrainian grain through the EU. They are confident that “transit is getting bigger and better.” “This grain does not stay in our countries. This is a good decision,” Telus stressed, adding that other EU countries also recognize this behind the scenes.
He also expressed hope that the European Union would draw conclusions from this and create a system at its level that would ensure that Ukrainian goods reach where they went before the war.
