Ukrainian govt approves procedure for providing multilevel free psychological assistance to Defenders, their family members

KYIV. Nov 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved the procedure for providing multilevel free psychological assistance to Defenders and their family members.

"The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has adopted a resolution approving the procedure for providing multi-level gratuitous psychological assistance to persons who are going to dismiss or were dismissed from military service, from among war veterans, persons with special merits to the country, family members of such persons and family members of deceased male and female Defenders of Ukraine," the press service of the Ministry of Veterans Affairs said.

It is noted that the Ministry of Veterans Affairs offers from next year fast and free access to our Defenders and their relatives to qualified psychological assistance at three organizational levels: the first – socio–psychological support and follow-up; the second – psychological rehabilitation; the third – comprehensive medical and psychological rehabilitation.

According to the report, the provision of psychological assistance of the first level should contribute to the social adaptation (readaptation) of service recipients, their socio-psychological support and follow-up, as well as the implementation of preventive measures against persons with the highest risk of falling into difficult life circumstances. Services will be provided by health services integrated into the primary health care system.

At the second level, psychological assistance will be provided aimed at solving topical or specific psychological problems that have arisen, in particular, as a result of psychological trauma in extreme situations (participation in hostilities, being in captivity, serving sentences), in emergency situations (fires, destruction of houses), in crisis situations (divorce, death of loved ones).

At the third level, psychological assistance is aimed at restoring or compensating for impaired mental functions, personal properties and the system of relations of service recipients, creating conditions for a full–fledged way out of a psychological crisis in order to preserve their health, restore combat capability or efficiency, mental and social adaptation mechanisms.

"The introduction of this Procedure will contribute to overcoming the consequences of war injuries, stress, ensuring the prevention of the occurrence and exacerbation of mental disorders, improving the quality of life of Defenders of Ukraine, as well as their families and families of fallen Soldiers," the ministry believes.
