Ukrainian law enforcers inspect torture facility in Kherson, identifying victims

KYIV. Jan 3 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian law enforcers have seized a number of evidence testifying to torture by occupiers in the basement of a police administrative building in Kherson, the the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) has said.

"Prosecutors of Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office, together with policemen and experts, inspected one of the administrative police buildings in Kherson seized by Russian representatives, which they used to ensure the functioning of the occupying punitive agencies," the prosecutor’s office said in a Telegram statement on Tuesday.

According to the department, the invaders set up a torture room in the basement.

"During the investigation, law enforcement officers discovered and seized a number of evidence. Among them are personal belongings and documents of citizens who could be illegally kept in the basement and used physical and psychological pressure. ‘Instruments’ of torture were seized – wooden bats, hoses, ties, and so on," the PGO said.

The PGO said law enforcement officers are currently identifying all the representatives of the aggressor country affected by the actions.

Under the procedural leadership of Kherson Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a pretrial investigation into the violation of the laws and customs of war (part 1 of article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine) continues.
