Ukrainian Prosecutor General discusses with his German counterpart creation of compensation mechanism, payments to victims of Russian aggression

KYIV. Nov 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin discussed with German Federal Public Prosecutor Peter Frank the creation of a compensation mechanism and payments to victims of Russian aggression.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office on The telegram channel on Tuesday, Kostin met with the German Federal Public Prosecutor and Deputy Federal Public Prosecutor Lars Otte as part of his visit to Berlin.

"We discussed a compensation mechanism for the seizure of Russian assets and directing them to pay compensation to victims of aggression," the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.

"We welcome Germany’s decisive position on sanctions against those who finance and fuel Russian aggression against Ukraine," Kostin stressed.

The Prosecutor General noted that the compensation mechanism should operate in addition to sanctions and the UN had already supported the creation of such a mechanism.

According to Kostin, the experience of Germany would be very useful for the implementation of this mechanism in practice.
