Ukrainian, Spanish Red Cross starting Livelihoods Project for residents of affected regions

KYIV. Sept 19 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Ukrainian Red Cross Society (URCS), along with colleagues from Spanish Red Cross, are launching a new program “Livelihoods Project.”

“For three days, representatives of regional organizations of Ukrainian Red Cross from Cherkasy, Vinnytsia, Mykolaiv, Ternopil and Kirovograd regions, together with the project donor, discussed the details of the implementation of the Livelihoods Project program,” the society said on Facebook.

According to URCS, Spanish Red Cross has many years of experience in implementing livelihoods projects and is currently focusing its activities on ensuring the sustainable development of Ukrainian regions suffering from the consequences of Russia’s armed aggression.

The program’s objective is to ensure integration and protection of internally displaced persons (IDPs) at the local level, assist citizens in obtaining new vocational education, retraining in working professions, specialization and advanced training in specialties in line with priority types of economic activities. The program also provides microfinance for small business development to individuals and households, especially in rural areas. In addition, the project includes support for the introduction of grants for micro-businesses of IDPs and veterans, as well as the provision of grants to IDPs and veterans who want to resume, start and organize their own business.
