KYIV. Nov 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) is ready to support the project on the arrangement of heating points in Ukrainian schools and kindergartens in winter, said head of the representative office of the international organization in Ukraine Murat Shakhin.
According to the press service of the president, during a meeting with head of the UNICEF representative office in Ukraine, Deputy head of the Office of the President Kyrylo Tymoshenko informed Shakhin about the plans of the authorities to organize heating points in the country for the winter period, where people could stay at a time when their homes may be left without heating and electricity.
Such points, according to him, will be equipped with generators, drinking water and food, Internet connection. This will require about 17,000 generators.
"We want to equip these heating points on the basis of schools and kindergartens in large cities and administrative buildings in rural areas," he said, noting that Ukraine would welcome assistance in the implementation of this project from international organizations.
In turn, Shakhin stressed the importance of such an idea and confirmed the readiness of UNICEF to support the project on the installation of heating points within the framework of the Learing Together initiative.
He also recalled that within the framework of this initiative, launched by the Ministry of Education and Science in cooperation with UNICEF and First Lady Olena Zelenska to support the educational process in the current academic year, a thousand hub schools will receive $3 million for their respective needs.
