USA allocates $275 mln in military aid to Ukraine – White House

KYIV. Dec 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – U.S. President Joe Biden on Friday ordered the allocation of military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $275 million, the White House reports.

According to a posting on the White House website, the president ordered "to direct the drawdown of up to $275 million in defense articles and services of the Department of Defense, and military education and training, and to provide assistance to Ukraine."

In turn, the representative of the US National Security Council, John Kirby, said that the new military assistance would, in particular, be related to Ukraine’s air defense.

Ukraine will receive new capabilities to strengthen air defense and to counter threats from drones, the New York Post quoted him as saying.

He added that the United States would also give Ukraine more ammunition for HIMARS multiple launch rocket systems and for artillery.

As reported, the relevant committees of the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate agreed on the draft national defense budget for 2023 fiscal year in the amount of $847.3 billion.

The document provides for expanding and modifying the initiative to help Ukraine in the field of security, in 2023 it is planned to allocate additional $800 million for these purposes.
