USA to provide Ukraine with another $1.2 bln long-term military aid – media

KYIV. May 9 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The United States will allocate another $1.2 billion to Ukraine on Tuesday in long-term security assistance, the Associated Press reports.

It is noted that the United States will provide Ukraine with another $1.2 billion in long-term military assistance to further strengthen its air defense in connection with the ongoing attacks of the Russian occupying forces on Ukraine with drones and missiles.

The aid package will reportedly be announced on Tuesday and the money will be provided as part of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative. Unlike American equipment, arms and ammunition, which are more often sent to Ukraine from Pentagon warehouses so that they can be delivered quickly, this money should be spent over the coming months or even years to meet Ukraine’s future security needs.

The aid initiative will fund HAWK air defense systems, munitions and air defense drones. It will also cover artillery, missiles, satellite imagery assistance and funding for ongoing maintenance and spare parts for various systems.

“Including this package, the U.S. has provided Ukraine nearly $37 billion in military aid since Russia invaded in February 2022,” the report notes.
