By KYIV. May 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Five officers of the White Angel police unit were wounded on Monday as a result of shelling near Chasiv Yar, Bakhmutsky district, Donetsk region, the National Police of Ukraine has said on the Telegram channel.
The crew made it to escape from the shelling area on their own, all of the have received medical care, Chief of Kyiv Police Ivan Vyhovsky said. Their condition is yet to be clarified.
“Unfortunately, such a selfless and professional job is carried out by law enforcers at the risk of life,” he said.
The White Angel unit was founded by a police unit in Donetsk region which was engaged in evacuation of children and whole families from dangerous areas, delivery of humanitarian aid and support for local residents. The first crew worked on an ambulance vehicle that was called the White Angel.
Today, the unit includes more than 20 police crews that constantly work along the frontline. They have evacuated thousands of citizens, including 600 children. The unit provides medical assistance, hospitalizes wounded people, evacuates the bodies of the victims, delivers humanitarian aid to the areas that cannot be reached by volunteers.
