Yatsenyuk: Modern Russia is threat to world order

KYIV. Dec 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Russia in its modern form is a threat to the world order and should be demilitarized, de-imperialized and denazified, said head of the Kyiv Security Forum, former Prime Minister of Ukraine (2014-2016) Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

"Putin is waging a war not only against Ukraine, but also against the entire democracy. This is a war of darkness against light, between slavery and freedom. This is a war of dictatorship and democracy. The only option is to win this war. Therefore, we must unite our efforts and protect democracy and freedom all over the world at any cost," Yatsenyuk stressed at the Kyiv Security Forum in Kyiv on December 1.

He addressed the international partners: "We are fighting for your security, for your freedom, for your economy, for your sovereignty."

"Ukraine is receiving more and more support and assistance from the Western world. And my message to our Western friends is that by investing in Ukraine, you are making an investment in your own security and defense. This is the best investment in protecting your homeland – support for Ukraine. So, ammunition, weapons and even, I would call – energy weapons: energy shields, mechanisms that will help Ukraine survive this winter. It makes a huge difference," he said.

Yatsenyuk noted the importance of creating a special court to "bring to justice the Russian military, Russian elites, those who committed crimes against humanity and war crimes."

"To show other dictators in the world, who are now closely watching what is happening, who will win and how it will end – to send a signal to everyone in the world who supports autocracy and dictatorship when they face responsibility," he stressed.

"It should be both criminal and financial responsibility. The sanctions imposed should have been strengthened and all Russian assets should have been confiscated. Russia must answer and pay for the restoration of Ukraine," Yatsenyuk added.

He pointed out that it is already necessary to think about the future, about how to strengthen NATO and the European Union, as well as about the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine and its accession to NATO and the EU.

"How to demilitarize, de-imperialize and denazify Russia. Because modern Russia is a threat to the world order. Modern Russia poses a threat to global democracy and freedom. How to make the UN stronger and more effective," he stressed.

Yatsenyuk noted that the "new world democratic order" should be able to protect our freedoms": "So that all those who commit war crimes and atrocities are punished. An order that will bring prosperity and peace to the whole world. And Ukraine is the flagship in this new wave of a new world and a new world structure.”
