Zelenska discusses cultural cooperation with management of Metropolitan Opera, Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra

KYIV. Dec 18 (Interfax-Ukraine) – First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska met with Director of the Metropolitan Opera Peter Gelb and Head of the Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra Keri-Lynn Wilson during their visit to Lviv, according to the presidential website on Sunday.

“I am grateful to you for your constant clear position of support for Ukraine and projects that strengthen the voice of Ukrainian culture at the international stage,” Zelenska said during the meeting.

The First Lady discussed Gelb and Wilson’s current and future cultural collaborations, particularly the continuation of the Metropolitan Opera’s internship program for musicians from Ukraine and the production of a Ukrainian opera that has already been commissioned from contemporary composer Maksym Kolomiyets.

The parties also discussed the possible performance of the Ukrainian Freedom Orchestra at the 2024 Olympics, which will be held in Paris, France. It is planned to dedicate it to supporting Ukrainian art schools.
