KYIV. Oct 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – On the 78th anniversary of the expulsion of the Nazis from Ukraine, a wreath was placed from President Volodymyr Zelensky at the grave of the Unknown Soldier in the Eternal Glory Park in Kyiv.
The Head of State paid tribute to the memory of the heroes who gave their lives to liberate the Ukrainian land from invaders, the press service of the president reports.
Zelensky noted that evil always starts the same way, acts the same way and ends the same way too.
“The day of the liberation of Ukraine from the Nazis on the 247th day of our struggle becomes a symbol: the result of our struggle definitely becomes the liberation of our Ukraine! The captured territory becomes free. Resistance becomes pride. Struggle becomes victory. And Ukraine becomes united!” the president stressed.
The expulsion of the Nazis from Ukraine lasted about 700 days. It began at the end of 1942: on December 18, the first settlement liberated from the invaders was the village of Ivanivka in Luhansk region. And on October 28, 1944, the battle for the last occupied city began in Zakarpattia, which finally ended with victory and the complete expulsion of the Nazis from Ukraine.
