Dec 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) – President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky on the Day of the Prosecutor’s Office congratulated them on their professional holiday and expressed confidence that the work of Ukrainian prosecutors will necessarily be the basis for the accusation of Russian aggression in the future international Special Tribunal for War Crimes of the Russian Federation.
"Dear employees of the Prosecutor’s Office of Ukraine! Every year on the day of your professional holiday, approximately the same words sound: order and justice, the rule of law and the law, protection of human rights and freedoms, protection of the interests of the state and society. All these and other similar words, when combined, add up to one thing – justice," Zelensky said in a video message posted on Telegram on Thursday.
Justice, according to him, is not only about the state of things concerning the full life of people in a particular state, but also an effective deterrent weapon.
"When justice is present in international relations, the world is reliably protected from aggression. This means that when someone becomes an aggressor and starts a criminal war, he will not only be punished for it, but also compensate for all the losses brought by his aggression. It is you [prosecutors] who create this weapon for Ukraine and form a reliable basis for its use," the president said, adding that by now more than 50,000 Russian war crimes have been committed by Ukrainian and foreign prosecutors helping them.
He stressed that 100% justice will come only when the highest Russian political leadership is brought to justice.
"That is why the Office of the President of Ukraine, the Prosecutor General and other relevant institutions pay so much attention to the creation of a Special Tribunal regarding the crime of aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine. I believe that the work, in particular, of Ukrainian prosecutors, will certainly be the basis for the accusation of a Special Tribunal for aggression. Therefore, please work at full capacity and always remember that justice should be the result of all our steps," Zelensky said.
