Zelensky, Yermak meet in Kyiv with US Under Secretary of State Nuland

KYIV. Dec 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak met in Kyiv on Saturday with U.S. Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland and U.S. Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Ukraine Bridget Brink.

According to the press service of the President’s Office, Yermak thanked Nuland for visiting Ukraine. "Although Kyiv is now almost without coverage, you will be able to see for yourself the real situation and make sure that Ukrainians remain courageous, do not leave their cities, continue to fight. You are deeply aware of the situation in Ukraine. Everyone knows how much you support our country," he said.

As the President’s Office head said, today there is a historical unity not only within Ukraine – many countries of the world have united around helping our state. "Now we see how many countries demonstrate a very strong position. Ukraine receives both military and political assistance – at the level of states and international organizations," Yermak said.

Nuland, for her part, said the United States officials see that Ukrainians continue to fight, and not only for its own freedom, but also for democratic values. This is of great importance, she said.

Separately, the President’s Office head thanked the partners for supporting the Ukrainian initiative Grain from Ukraine and participating in the founding International Summit on Food Security. "We consider Grain from Ukraine as an important tool for strengthening global food security," Yermak said.

The parties also discussed the issue of increasing sanctions pressure on Russia. Yermak noted the importance of further strengthening sanctions against Russia and added this is crucial element in forcing Moscow to peace.

Nuland was also received by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. During the conversation, the Head of State stressed the strategic role and allied nature of the Ukrainian-U.S. partnership and touched upon key issues on the bilateral agenda.
