KYIV. Oct 24 (Interfax-Ukraine) – President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy met with the Minister of Defense of the Kingdom of Denmark Troels Lund Poulsen, who arrived on a visit to Kyiv.
According to Zelenskyy’s press service, the main focus during the meeting was on strengthening the Ukrainian sky with modern fighters and new air defense systems. Cooperation within the framework of the aviation coalition and the training of Ukrainian pilots on F-16 aircraft, which Denmark and other partners are preparing to transfer to Ukraine, were also discussed.
Separately, the President of Ukraine noted the adoption by the G7 at the Vilnius NATO summit of the Joint Declaration of Support for Ukraine and expressed readiness to begin negotiations between Ukraine and the countries of Northern Europe on obtaining appropriate security guarantees.
The head of state expressed gratitude to the Danish government, led by Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, as well as the entire Danish society for the strong support from the first days of full-scale Russian aggression and the military assistance packages provided.
Separately, Zelenskyy noted Denmark’s exemplary patronage over the restoration of Mykolaiv and the important support from official Copenhagen on Ukraine’s path to the European Union.
“We are working to complete the implementation of all seven recommendations of the European Commission. And we will be very happy if we can begin negotiations on accession to the EU before the end of this year,” the president said.
At the end of the meeting, the President of Ukraine presented the Danish Minister of Defense with the Order of Merit, the first class, and the Secretary of State for Security Policy and Operations of the Danish Ministry of Defense, Kasper Høeg-Jensen, with the Order of Merit, the third class. Danish officials were awarded for their significant personal contribution to strengthening interstate cooperation, supporting state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.
