KYIV. Nov 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Criminal proceedings have been launched into the death of servicemen of the 128th separate mountain assault brigade in Zaporoizhia region, and an investigation is underway, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.
“The main thing is to establish the full truth about what happened and prevent this from happening again. Every military man in a combat zone – in the zone of pre-shooting and aerial reconnaissance of the enemy – knows how to behave in the open air, how to take care of safety. Now the investigation should give the relatives of the fallen soldiers and society honest answers about how the tragedy occurred and whose orders were incorrect,” Zelenskyy wrote on Telegram on Sunday evening.
The head of state expressed condolences to the families and friends of the victims and emphasized that “this is a tragedy that could have been avoided.”
“Minister of Defense Umerov reported to me on the measures that were taken to find out all the circumstances of what happened, who specifically gave orders. Criminal proceedings were also registered into the tragedy. The corresponding investigation is ongoing,” Zelenskyy said.
Earlier, MP of the Batkivschyna faction Oleksiy Kucherenko reported the death of 28 and the injury of 53 military personnel as a result of a Russian missile strike. Three days of mourning for the fallen soldiers have been declared in Zakarpattia region.
