KYIV. Dec 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) – On Friday, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in the presence of Prosecutor General of Ukraine Andriy Kostin and Prosecutor General of Lithuania Nida Grunskiene, presented state awards to Ukrainian prosecutors on the occasion of their professional holiday.
“Today is the professional day of those people whose work is the legal foundation for the protection of the rights and freedoms of Ukrainian citizens, the interests of the state and society – both in peacetime and, especially, during war. Such a foundation must be as strong as possible. First of all, for so that Ukraine can powerfully and based on facts defend the truth about this war, about Russian aggression, about terror and the crimes of the occupiers,” the President said.
He emphasized that “the quality of the work of Ukrainian prosecutors, investigators, detectives, experts, criminologists is the irreversibility of Russia’s punishment for crimes committed against Ukraine and Ukrainians.”
“I have no doubt that Ukraine can and will defend its independence. I also have no doubt that Ukraine will be able to ensure fair accountability for all those who brought war and terror to our land. And our state will certainly ensure the appropriate processes at all levels, in particular thanks to your work,” Zelenskyy said.
The head of state wished the employees of the prosecutor’s office maximum efficiency and focus on precisely those results that are objectively necessary for society, and also presented state awards.
The President also recalled that to date more than 110,000 war crimes of the Russian Federation have been documented on the territory of Ukraine. At the same time, he especially noted the good results in cooperation between the prosecutor’s office of Ukraine and the International Criminal Court.
In addition, Zelenskyy noted the efficiency of prosecutors in identifying individuals responsible for issuing criminal orders among the Russian political leadership and the effectiveness of joint work with law enforcement agencies against sanctioned persons, in particular Russian ones.
The head of state also expressed gratitude to the prosecutors who are facilitating the return of children abducted and deported by Russia back to Ukraine.
