Zelenskyy: Russian Shahed attack near Khmelnytsky NPP is another reminder for partners how important it is to strengthen Ukrainian air defense

KYIV. Oct 25 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Russian night strike by Shahed drones in the direction of Khmelnytsky nuclear power plant (in the town of Slavuta) is another reminder for all Ukraine’s partners how important it is to strengthen Ukrainian air defense and how dangerous it is when Russia can bypass global sanctions, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

“It is highly likely that the target for these drones was the Khmelnytsky nuclear power plant – the shockwave from the explosion shattered windows, including those on the territory of the NPP,” he said in an evening video address.

As he noted, “this strike towards the NPP is another reminder to all our partners of how important it is to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense and how dangerous it can be when Russia can bypass international sanctions.”

In particular, according to Zelenskyy, “many components in the attack drones used by Russian terrorists, as well as in their missiles, originate from various countries, various companies, including Western ones.”

“The effectiveness of sanctions against Russia is literally a defense against terrorism,” Zelenskyy said.

As reported, on Wednesday night, Russian troops shelled the area near Khmelnytsky NPP.

As a result of the explosion, windows in the administrative and amenity and laboratory buildings were damaged. Due to damage to power lines, some 1,860 consumers were de-energized in the towns of Slavuta and Netishyn, Khmelnitsky region.

The damage caused by the explosion of Russian drones is currently being recorded. It is also known about two dozen injured local residents. Everyone has already received the necessary help.
