Zelenskyy says Ukraine needs victories in Congress, support from EU, dialogue on future EU membership

KYIV. Nov 24 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine needs victories in the U.S. Congress to receive financial and military assistance, continued support from the European Union and an open dialogue about future EU membership.

“We need three victories. The first victory is in Congress. This is a challenge, it is not easy, not everything depends on us, but Ukraine must do everything in its power and even more so that there is help. I believe that it will happen,” Zelenskyy said at a press conference with the President of Latvia in Kyiv.

Secondly, he noted, Ukraine needs the support of the European Union so that “the 15th package [of sanctions] isn’t spent in vain.”

“Not everyone in the European Union today, let’s say, is ready to support this package. We must make sure that everyone supports this package,” the President said.

“And the third story is an open dialogue about the future of our membership. This is motivation. Membership in the European Union is a motivational step for us. It is important for those who work in the state, for those who study and for those who have to be motivated by taking different steps, giving your life on the battlefield. Therefore, I believe that today these three things are very important. And in the near future we must achieve results,” Zelenskyy added.
