Natural gas prices for Lithuanians will drop 3-6% starting in July

VILNIUS. July 6 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The State Energy Regulatory Council of Lithuania on Tuesday approved a reduction in natural gas prices for residential consumers for the second half of 2023, BNS reported.

After the approval of tariffs presented by the Ignitis state energy holding, starting July 1, the price of gas with state compensation for the group consuming minimum volumes will be 1.36 euro vs. 1.4 euro at present, a 2.9% decrease; for household consumers who use gas for home heating, the price will decrease to 0.87 euro from 0.92 euro, a 5.4% a decrease; for the third group, which consumes the largest volumes of gas, the price will drop 5.7% from 0.88 euro to 0.83 euro.

The chairman of the Council, Renatas Pocius, said earlier that the price change is due to a decrease in the market price of gas.

Lithuanian Energy Minister Dainius Kreivis noted that, despite the fall in gas prices in the markets, its cost to citizens still needs to be compensated.

Last week, the Lithuanian government decided to extend the state’s compensation for gas to household consumers from July until the end of this year. Compensation will amount to 0.63 euro per cubic meter instead of the current 0.99 euro, and a total of 54.48 million euro will be required for subsidies from unused funds in the first half of the year.
