KYIV. May 10 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The damage inflicted to Mykolaiv during the full-scale invasion reaches ERUR 860 million, Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych said.
“Mykolaiv was bombarded for 217 days, every day there were at least four missiles, a maximum of 38 in one night. There are no areas that lived in peace. Now the damage is estimated at about EUR 860 million. This is housing, infrastructure, kindergartens, schools,” he told the “Energy Reform portal on the sidelines of the Covenant of Mayors in Ukraine regarding sustainable development in Lviv on Wednesday.
According to him, Mykolaiv City Council, together with the Kyiv School of Economics, created a pilot project based on the information system that existed before the war, thanks to which destroyed and damaged objects are recorded via the Maxar satellite and by drones.
At the same time, he noted that four schools were destroyed, in particular, one of them for 1,500 pupils, and now the city is looking for 20 buses that could provide transport for schoolchildren to other educational institutions.
“The construction of a new school is not a matter of one year. We are looking for, we are turning to all partners. But they work within the framework of the green transition, therefore, in their opinion, buses should correspond,” the mayor described the situation.
The Covenant of Mayors is the world’s largest climate and energy movement, launched in the European Union in 2008. The initiative brings together 11,000 local and regional authorities in 55 countries around the world. Currently, almost 300 Ukrainian communities have joined this climate movement and have developed 180 action plans aimed at solving energy and climate problems. Signatories of the Covenant of Mayors in Ukraine have pledged to reduce CO2 emissions by over 25 million tonnes per year.
